Rowena Trapp: Photography

Rowena (or Nena, as she likes to be called) was born, raised and educated in Durango Colorado. She received her B.A. in Anthropology in 1973 from Fort Lewis College and worked for many years as an archaeologist. Photography was an interest from childhood and was expanded as part of her work of recordation of prehistoric and historic sites. Such recording of cultural artifacts did not address well the "whys or who" of past people. Photography is her attempt to capture the heart of people who touched places before us. While other subjects are intriguing, the cultural and historical ones have a story to tell.

Artist Statement

My photography is a tiny moment frozen in time.  I do my best to tell a story with my images and my hope and purpose is for the viewer to feel like they are a part of the process.

I have been involved in photography for many years. Because of my attraction to history and prehistory and my formal training as an archaeologist, my primary subjects of interest are those that exemplify western and cultural heritage. I always look for inspiration along the way, so landscapes and other natural wonders also catch my eye.
